Wall cladding with metal fabric: Concert hall of Eurogress Aachen

The 1,500 m² wall cladding made from two different stainless steel metal fabrics in the Europe Hall – the concert hall of Eurogress Aachen – provides improved room acoustics and impresses with both its aesthetic and functional properties.

The Mönchengladbach-based office for interior architecture and design, Klein/Haller, opted for metal fabrics from GKD for the wall cladding of the concert hall. In the concert hall, 600 m² of Baltic fabric were used in horizontal curves above the gallery and 230 m² of ceiling-high wall panels were installed on the first floor of the hall, consisting of a custom version of the Lamelle stainless steel fabric with three times as many warp wires and 37% open surface. In the upper section of the hall, the flexible fabric was mounted using horizontally curved frames of different radii. In the lower section, the fabric panels were fitted to acoustically optimized MDF boards.
Alongside its fineness, density, and robustness, acoustic neutrality and air permeability, the GKD metal fabric impresses with its remarkable aesthetics – also as a "projection screen" for light shows – uninterrupted by intrusive building technology, which is completely hidden behind the fabric panels of the matt shimmering wall cladding.
